South Staffordshire celebrations for Queen’s Jubilee thanks to Community Lottery

07 September 2022

Thousands of people united in marking The Queen's Platinum Jubilee this year thanks to grant funding of more than £17,600 generated through South Staffordshire Council's Community lottery scheme.

From street parties, to mass picnics, to dinner dances, family fun days and more – events took place throughout the district; from Wombourne, to Kinver, to Perton, Swindon, Bobbington, Essington, Featherstone, Coven, Penkridge, Wheaton Aston, Dunston and more.

Among the festivities was Codsall Parish Council's Picnic in the Park, Huntington's Family Fun Day; a Jubilee Street Party at Dunston; an open-air live music concert in Wombourne.

Leader of South Staffordshire Council, Councillor Roger Lees, said: “This summer was one for the history books – with the whole of South Staffordshire coming together to mark The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

“The district came alive with song, dance, and celebration and we we're delighted to be able to assist this with a series of grants raised through our excellent Community Lottery scheme.

“It was a spectacular weekend – not only to celebrate our Monarch's tremendous reign, but also to unite as South Staffordshire residents in what was undoubtedly a weekend to remember for many years to come."

A total of 27 different groups have benefited from the grants, including 13 community groups and charitable organisations, 11 parish councils, two village halls, and one PTA group.

The council has given out £17,658 to these organisations, which was raised through the South Staffordshire Community Lottery - with a portion of the income from every ticket sold contributing towards grant giving scheme The Community Innovation Fund.

Through this fund, grants are available once a year to good causes, community groups, local associations, village hall committees and other not-for-profit organisations which benefit the residents of South Staffordshire.
